PERFORMANCE TRIAL

"It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable."

ABOUT THE STUDY

DIETARY

NITRATE

SUPPLEMENTS

The results from our previous study show a clear benefit of dietary nitrate supplementation on exercise capacity and a positive change in physiology. However, there was only a slight benefit on time trial performance.

It is unclear why dietary nitrate supplementation does not have the same effect on performance, but there is the potential that there is significant variation in the background intake of nitrate in the diet. If nitrate in the diet was controlled tightly before the performance measure there may well be an positive response observed on performance.

The purpose of this research study is to gain a better understanding of the effect of a 7-day dose of dietary nitrate on time trial performance following a 7-day controlled withdrawal period of dietary nitrate-rich foods among active adults.

What's involved?

- 1x testing session

- 2x performance tests

POSSIBLE BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATING

You will receive a free gold standard physiological assessment of aerobic capacity (V̇O2peak).
You will receive personal information on physiological markers such as heart rate during exercise and on performance measures such as peak and average power output whilst cycling. These variables are useful in prescribing exercise programs
By participating in this study, you may find that the supplement (sodium nitrate) used in this study may allow you to perform better in training and competition
